Medical Use and other Facts about Generic Flagyl

Generic Flagyl, or otherwise called a metronidazole tablet, is known as a very useful medication which serves as an antiprotozoal and antibiotic.  Generic Flagyl is medically used either as is or with other antibiotics in order to help treat bacterial vaginosis, endocarditis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and many more.  Generic Flagyl is also very effective against amoebiasis, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and dracunculiasis.  Generic Flagyl is deemed as the choice drug or go-to medicine for patients having first episodes of mild or moderate colitis caused by Clostridium difficile organism.  Generic Flagyl can be available in the following forms: as a tablet to be taken orally, as a cream to be applied topically, and it can also be put in an IV drip and administered intravenously.

The most common side effects of generic Flagyl, although not life-threatening, include the following: nausea, headaches, appetite loss, and the unusual metallic taste in the mouth.  Others may experience allergies or occasional seizures after they take generic Flagyl. Generic Flagyl must not be used during the early stages of pregnancy, but it looks like it can be used during the later stages of pregnancy.  When breastfeeding, generic Flagyl should not be taken by the lactating mother.
